Indiana Jones Takes Manhattan

News you can use (from amNY):

Stockbroker Daniel Silverio ... slipped off the Wall Street platform on the No. 2 line last week as a train approached. He rolled into the depression between the rails and let the train pass over him. He suffered a fractured hip and vertebrae, but lived.

This is apparently the least recommended way to play the survive-the-oncoming-train game, but probably the manliest.

David Borgenicht, co-author of the "Worst-Case Scenario Handbook," devoted a chapter of the book to tips on escaping from the tracks.
...
"The immediate place I would like would be is the space between the tracks and platform; there is an overhang you can crawl into..."

If that won't work, Borgenicht suggests carefully crossing over the electrified third rail and standing in the 2-foot-wide space between the columns dividing the tracks.

Borgenicht also recommends running along the tracks past the point the train would normally stop to open its doors. Alcoves there could provide safe haven.

The MTA has no official advice for platform plummeters: "There is no one piece of advice we can give to customers that would help them in every conceivable situation," according to spokesman Paul Fleuranges.

Unofficially, they recommend falling only while transit workers are on strike, to minimize chance of impact.
