More 9/11 911 Tapes Found
Following last week's release of hours of 911 calls recorded the morning of September 11, 2001, the FDNY has uncovered two additional tapes, which will likewise be prepared for public release.
The tapes surfaced nearly a week after the city made public parts of some 130 emergency calls placed by 9/11 victims. The voices of civilians were edited out.
City lawyers are reviewing the new tapes, which will be redacted before the public hears them.
"As soon as that process is complete, the tapes will be publicly released in accordance with the Court of Appeals opinion and the families of any persons who can be identified will be notified," the FDNY said.
As with the previous tapes, only the voices of the 911 operators or dispatchers will be heard.
The families of any victims who can be identified will be notified and offered a chance to listen in private to their loved ones' words, officials said.
