Out With the Ally, In With the Commie

If early returns are correct, Italy has ousted their free market leader in favor of a taxophilic leftist whose coalition includes "unreformed communists".

Stalled GDP growth, high unemployment, and large deficits helped gel support for Romano Prodi, who (if he is indeed found to have won the election) will have unseated Silvio Berlusconi.  Prodi's "centre-left" coalition is also thought to have won control of the Italian senate.

Well, if history is any guide, we know that if there's one thing that'll whip an economy into shape, it's communism.

Congratulazioni, Italia.

Update:  Scratch that.  Reverse it.  Latest polls suggest Berlusconi may have edged out Prodi after all.  Final results should be in by Tuesday morning.
