Iraqi terrorists have begun crank calling families of British soldiers, to taunt and threaten their loved ones.

[An Army document issued to soldiers of the London Regiment] is said to warn soldiers preparing to take part in operations that insurgents have managed to obtain home telephone numbers of soldiers using an electronic intercept device that can hack into mobile telephone systems.

“Investigations indicate that the callers of these nuisance calls have acquired the numbers from personnel using their own mobiles to phone,” the document continues.

“This is fairly easy using today’s technology. It makes no difference whether the mobile is of United Kingdom origin or sourced abroad. The Ministry of Defence is keen to establish the extent of these nuisance calls to determine if there is a pattern to them."

Captain Ed notes this is a better way for them to spend their days than making IEDs, but wonders what else this technology might be used for.
