Chris Lurks, Oil Jerks

ChrisWith that schmuck Chris threatening to disrupt American rigs in the Gulf of Mexico, oil went and got good and pricey today, with light crude nosing above $76 per barrel.

Tropical Storm Chris intensified over the Caribbean and could become the year's first hurricane to threaten the Gulf of Mexico later Wednesday or overnight, the Miami-based National Hurricane Center said. The storm's forecast path takes it into the Gulf early on Monday.

Hurricanes last year shut in a quarter of U.S. crude and fuel output and sent oil to record highs. Around 12 percent of the U.S. Gulf of Mexico's 1.5 million barrels per day (bpd) oil output is still offline.

We need all the hurricanes we can get to thoroughly wake up that idiot administration in the US, not to mention the idiot American public who do not understand that unless we take action now on climate change we are essentially toast. And to also get across the message that the whole world is running on a resource (oil) that is in decline. Personally, I was very disappointed when Chris was downgraded and I am hopeful that he will pick up steam again once he is in the over-heated waters of the Gulf. I don't want to see a city such as New Orleans or its still-suffering population harmed by hurricanes, however, I don't see any other way of waking up a country that is asleep at the wheel. Maybe one of those hurricanes to come will smash up some of Bush's ranches in Texas. One can always hope.
