RIP Jeane Kirkpatrick
Newly minted octogenarian Jeane Kirkpatrick has died. Kirkpatrick was the first woman to be named U.S. Ambassador to the U.N., appionted by President Reagan in 1981.
A reformed Democrat, Dr. Kirkpatrick gave a memorable address at the 1984 Republican Convention that resonates loudly today. For her extensive government service, which included foreign intelligence, diplomacy, and human rights, nuclear, space, and defense policy, Kirkpatrick was awarded the Congressional Medal of Freedom in 1985.
On September 12, 2001, along with her Empower America (now FreedomWorks) co-founders, Kirkpatrick called for a declaration of war on Islamic fundamentalism and all "nations that sponsor, harbor or support individuals and entities at war with the United States."
American Enterprise Institute offers Kirkpatrick's biography and body of work.
