4 Inconvenient Nominations and a Shoo-In
Today's release of the Oscar nominations rocked the shobiz community with the bombshell that members of the academy managed to find four documentaries they could stomach nominating that weren't "An Inconvenient Truth".
The four inevitable runners-up are "Deliver Us From Evil," "Iraq in Fragments," "Jesus Camp," and "My Country, My Country."
It seems a little cruel to me that they would even bother teasing those four other production teams with this and making them schlep all the way to the awards ceremony, when there's no mathematically conceivable way for them to win.
Even if one of the other films happens to steal the win through some kind of fraud or coersion or irregular layout of the Oscar ballot, Gore will undoubtedly spend the next 6 years identifying himself as the man who used to be the next Oscar-winning documentarian.
Technically, the film's director David Guggenheim is the nominee, but Gumby has said he plans to take the red carpet stroll amid the parade of Hollywood royalty, teeing up a confluence of self-satisfaction that already has Los Angeles on an emergency smug alert.
