MittRomney.com Goes Live

Mitt Romney My preferred (and predicted) pick for the top of the 2008 GOP ticket, Mitt Romney, made his prospective Presidential bid a bit more official today, as the Governor filed his exploratory committee paperwork and concurrently launched a new website.  Stephen Smith, formerly of Bill Frist's VOLPAC, has signed on as Romney's head of blogging and online outreach.

The site is satisfyingly content-rich right out of the gate and strikes a distinctly family-focused tone.  The main page is headed by this quote from Governor Romney:

"American cannot continue to lead the family of nations around the world if we suffer the collapse of the family here at home."

What's more, the site offers not only Mitt's bio, but his wife Ann's bio and a separate page devoted to family photos.

On the Issue Watch page, Romney identifies a number of key issues that "America Must Address to Remain the Economic and Military Superpower" which happily include the one looming global threat that isn't getting much attention from other candidates from either party, namely increasing our global competitiveness.  Instead of the toxic (if popular) combination of anti-business, anti-growth policies and economic protectionism to ward off the inevitable self-imposed competitive disadvantage, Romney appears to recognize and embrace the fact that only through free and open markets, complemented by a competitive and simplified tax environment which encourages investment in business and technology, can we remain a global superpower (or, indeed, even a prosperous nation) as Asian economies come roaring into their own.

Romney also offers an aggressive War on Terror stance ("Defeating the Jihadists" is the first-listed priority), but his appropriate focus on global competitiveness and his correct view on how to secure it seem to be the more distinguishing feature of his candidacy at this early stage.
