Terrorists Cherry Bomb U.S. Embassy In Greece

Rambunctious, dissident freedom fighters carried out a zero-casualty attack against the U.S. Embassy in Athens, Greece early this morning.

Narrowly missing the embassy seal, the small anti-tank shell pierced the building near the front entrance shortly before 6 a.m., damaging a bathroom on the third floor, which houses the ambassador's office, and shattering windows in nearby buildings.

Greece's Public Order Minister said the pre-dawn attack was probably carried out by a domestic terrorist group — raising fears of resurgent violence by far-left Greek militants.

Reuters pulled this gem from a local police officer:

"This was a rocket attack launched from a building across the street. It landed inside a toilet on the third floor of the embassy."

Now, I assume when the kindly Athenian lawman said "toilet" he meant what we might call a "bathroom" (and, rather than anything in English, I suspect he may have actually said "λουτρό" (thank you Babelfish)), but the idea of the rocket actually landing in the toilet is mildly comical in an absurd and juvenile way.  But since there were no deaths and no injuries, we get some leeway to think absurd and juvenile thoughts.  Plus, the more palatable cherry bomb perspective (and the rascally ragamuffin perpetrators it bespeaks) fits the ixnay-on-the-errorismtay framework the media likes so much.

"It is very likely that this is the work of a domestic group," Public order Minister Vyron Polydoras said. "We believe this effort to revive terrorism is deplorable and will not succeed."

Vyron, shh.
