CNBC Million Dollar Portfolio Challenge - Technical Difficulties, Orders Cancelled
I noted in this morning's post that among the Day 1 technical difficulties were stock orders that would suddenly disappear from portfolios. Based on an email that just arrived from the contest admins, this must be a somewhat common affliction, because they're asking everyone to double check all pending orders.
They've also noticed the horrendous non-performance of the currency trading section and have apparently given up on getting it fixed today. So if you sat around endlessly refreshing the page like a sucker (like me) until you were finally able to enter your currency trades, you've gone and wasted some time.
We apologize for any inconvenience you may have experienced today, Monday May 12th, while playing the CNBC.com Million Dollar Portfolio Challenge.
We encourage you to check your stock transaction history to ensure all stock transaction orders you have submitted are entered correctly.
In addition, because of technical difficulties related to currency trading, we have cancelled all currency transactions submitted throughout Monday, May 12th. All traders' currency allocations will be reset to $100,000 CNBC Bucks when currency trading resumes. Please check back at http://milliondollar.cnbc.com for updates.
Last year, it took a whole week for everything to fall apart. They're getting more efficient.

Worth noting, while they tell us to 'double-check' to make sure everything went through. I'm having a lot of trouble even getting the contest pages to load, so I haven't been able to double-check on things since about noon anyways.. *shrugs* Isn't technology wonderful? :PPosted by: Random | May 12, 2008 4:47:23 PM
I had some great picks and I refreshed my screen like crazy!!!! WOW. You think they would have BETA tested this before rolling it out !!!!Posted by: Keith | May 12, 2008 5:21:58 PM
As far as I can tell the whole thing doesn't work. All I get is an error page. Can't select stocks at all.Posted by: Don | May 13, 2008 11:37:13 PM
I have the same scenario, only mine happened on Friday May 16th, 2008. I have two portfolios I would try to make moves in and only half of the moves I made took place. One of the portfolios is my best one, which I am in 26,000th place. Not stellar, but it was my best one. I get the standard reply for them, like it doesnt matter. Problem I have, is the Monday moves you talk about with the currency exchange, I made those moves fine, and I was making money with those, and they took those away from me. I ask to be put on the same footing with the Friday stock moves, and I cant get no traction to be put on the same footing as the rest. I wrote to them all weekend for them to get my two portfolios straightened out, and of course, to no satisfaction. I have to believe they are fixing this game. One instant, it is ok to correct the "system" and put people on the same footing, then the next instant, it's ok to have a seperation in footing. If I cant compete fairly or lopsided as the rest of the field, it's fixed. I get my currency transaction taken away, but I dont get my stock portfolios fixed, especially the one I am doing the best in. Smells fishy to me. FIXED!Posted by: Curt Wilkins | May 19, 2008 4:42:22 AM
I registered as I was instructed. However, I cannot get through to enter the contest. Your system keeps asking for the same information over and over. What am I doing wrong? HELP!Posted by: Clyde B. Adams | May 20, 2008 1:57:04 PM
glad I found your page.. I was wondering if I was imagining this or not.. I have had similar problems, you would think about last year,, and as I remember I stopped playing because some of the winners somehow double registered or something like that,, I vaguely remember some impropriety .. may it is on the archives. and today I am learning.. :) lol yes learning how to use currency trading from the Forex thing anyway, thanks for noticing that, I also noticed that currency trading was not used, and it is not something that the average stock market person does,, that is an advanced technique, well good luckPosted by: Isabella Hale | Jun 3, 2008 1:12:58 PM
Glad I found this page! No one else seems to have noticed this, so it might be just me experiencing it, but the currency trading system calculates gains/losses incorrectly for lots over 100 k. It claims one pip always has the same value no matter how many lots I buy. For instance, when I purchase 500 k of USD/YEN with a pip value of $9.28 per 100k lot, each pip increase/decrease should be worth $46.4, but the system does not recognize this and only shows $9.28 gain/loss per pip. Is this only happening to me?Posted by: zach | Jun 25, 2008 12:23:14 AM
i was not given credit for correctly answering trivia questions on Wed June 25th. my wife and i sit down every day after noon and answer them together. the only reply is that they did not recieve any answers from my email address that day, they did however credit my wife and she used the same computer as i did. every time answered a question that day as usual, i recieved a correct! response. i lost about 1500 spots in the contest and now im at about 6000th place or in the top .8 percent. really upsetting, has this happened to anyone else? AnthonyPosted by: anthony sibona | Jul 2, 2008 3:45:45 AM
I can't answer trivia questions as the site has posted "no questions available." The rules clearly state : "Questions will be posted individually between 6:00AM and 4:00PM, and will be available to be answered on the Site until 4:00PM that day" Right now its onlly 2:45 pm EST and there are no questions available to answer. They were on the site there earlier. I wonder if others got credit for answering them earlier. Really frustrating as i have some accounts in 2,500 place. A couple of good weeks would put me right there. But then you have to fight with either not gettng credit when you answer the questions or not having the correct time to answer like the rules state.Posted by: anthony sibona | Jul 3, 2008 3:03:09 PM
