GOP Convention: Stage Changes
Ed Morrissey snapped video Thursday morning of the mild makeover of the stage area at the Xcel Center, in advance of the final night speeches.
I dig it. Pageantry without pomposity. It's reminiscent of Bush's "in the round" staging in 2004 and looks to serve a similar purpose - to embed McCain more intimately among the delegates. It will surely be compared by Ombama devotees to the DNC's widely ridiculed mile-high apotheosis at the Invesco Temple.
The difference of course is that tonight's altered staging (like Bush's in 2004) aims to bring the candidate out into the crowd, rather than to exalt Him on high.
