I just got an interesting letter from President Clinton on Clinton Foundation letterhead. Maybe you got a similar one.

On Monday, President-elect Obama announced his intention to nominate Hillary to be Secretary of State. If confirmed, I know she will make an extraordinary contribution to the Obama Administration and to our country. In preparation for her joining the Administration, President-elect Obama has asked that the Foundation publicly shares the names of its donors, both past and future.

In the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina, you responded to President George H. W. Bush's and my call to support the rebuilding and recovery of the Gulf Coast region. Because your donation was received before the Bush-Clinton Katrina Fund was up and running, it was processed through the William J. Clinton Foundation which forwarded over $30 million in donations to the Bush-Clinton Katrina Fund. As such, you are listed as a donor to the Clinton Foundation. I am therefore reaching out to you to share our plans for publishing the names...

Funny, I don't remember hearing about that at the time. A cynical man might see this as an effective way to flood the zone in advance of releasing all those well-guarded, potentially troubling names on the Clinton donor list. Sent from my Verizon Wireless BlackBerry
